Welcome

We're glad you're here.

If you're reading this guide, you've likely already navigated more than most people realize, fertility consultations, difficult conversations, and decisions that no one fully prepares you for. We see that, and we honor it.

This guide is designed to give you a clear, honest overview of the egg donation process, without the clinical overwhelm or the vague reassurances. By the end, you'll understand exactly how a fresh donor egg cycle works, what to expect at each stage, and how Family Inceptions shows up for you throughout the journey.

Section 01

What Is Egg Donation?

Egg donation is the process by which a woman, called an egg donor, undergoes ovarian stimulation to produce multiple mature eggs, which are then retrieved and fertilized with sperm to create embryos for another family.

For recipient parents, this means the embryo, and ultimately the baby, is genetically connected to the sperm provider and the egg donor. The recipient parent who carries the pregnancy (or a gestational surrogate) provides the womb environment, which research shows plays a meaningful role in a child's development.

Who Chooses Egg Donation

Families come to egg donation from many different paths. There is no single story, and every reason is valid.

Diminished ovarian reserve or premature ovarian insufficiency

Recurrent IVF failure with own eggs

Genetic conditions the recipient parent doesn't want to pass on

LGBTQ+ couples building their family

Single parents by choice

Age-related fertility decline

Medical history affecting egg quality

Prior cancer treatment affecting ovarian function

A Note on Bonding

Research consistently shows that recipient parents bond deeply with donor-conceived children. The pregnancy experience, and the environment you provide, shapes your child in profound ways. Many families also find that the thoughtfulness and intention behind their path creates a uniquely close bond from day one.

Section 02

Fresh vs. Frozen Donor Eggs

One of the first decisions you'll navigate is whether to pursue a fresh donor egg cycle or a frozen donor egg bank. Both are valid paths. Understanding the differences helps you choose what's right for your family.

Fresh Donor Cycle
Frozen Egg Bank
Matching
Personalized, donor selected specifically for your family
Pre-existing pool, select from available inventory
Timing
Coordinated cycle; slightly longer lead time
Faster access, eggs already retrieved
Relationship
One-to-one match with your donor
Donor not exclusively matched to you
Cost
Typically higher upfront investment
Often lower initial cost; may vary by lot size
Success Rates
Strong outcomes with personalized protocols
Varies by bank, vitrification quality, and lot age
Family Inceptions
Our specialty, every cycle is tailored
Not our program, we refer when appropriate

At Family Inceptions, we specialize exclusively in fresh donor cycles. Every match is intentional, every cycle is personalized, and your donor is selected specifically for your family, not pulled from a shared inventory.

What This Means for You

You will never see a donor profile that hasn't already been reviewed, vetted, and approved by our team. Our prescreening process exists so that when you're choosing a donor, you're choosing from a pool of women we have already stood behind, not self-reported applicants.

Section 05

Questions Worth Asking

The fertility industry is largely unregulated at the agency level. These questions will help you evaluate any program you're considering, including ours. A confident, well-run agency will welcome every one of them.

01

How do you screen your egg donors, and can you walk me through your full protocol?

02

Do you work exclusively with fresh cycles, frozen egg banks, or both?

03

What does your support structure look like? Who is my primary point of contact, and who are the specialists I'll work with along the way?

04

Which fertility clinics do you partner with, and are they SART-affiliated?

05

What happens if our donor becomes medically disqualified or withdraws?

06

Do you facilitate independent legal representation for recipient parents?

07

Can I speak with a previous recipient parent who has worked with you?

If an agency becomes defensive or vague in response to any of these questions, that is useful information too.
